FULTON, N.Y. —  The Fulton Fire Department says its new plan is designed to save taxpayers money and to make sure help is available when it’s really needed. According to the new plan, personnel will no longer respond to non-emergency medical calls. Those incidents will be left to ambulance crews.

"Calling 911 in some ways has become the way some folks get their healthcare and sometimes they call for opinions – 'My child has fallen and their knee is swollen, we'd like somebody to look at it,'” said Oswego County EMS Coordinator Jim Jones.

Fulton Mayor Ron Woodward believes that sending fire crews to minor emergencies or emergencies that are strictly medical is a waste.
